If you’re after a bed for your guest room, or you want to make it easier for friends and family members to sleep over in your living room every now and then, you may find yourself with a few options to choose from.
You might find that you don’t have the space available for a bed, which can instantly throw a spanner in the works. However, you can still create a lovely space in which you can invite friends to stay over by choosing either a sofa bed or a day bed. You will of course need to pick between the two, which can be a little tricky.
If you’re trying to find the best solution to your home furnishings problem, here are a few pros and cons that you may want to consider:
Day Beds
Day beds are often seen as a cross between a chaise lounge, a sofa and a traditional bed. They can be ideal for napping or resting on, although they can also serve perfectly well for sleeping. You can buy day beds in all kinds of shapes and sizes, some with pull out mattresses (also known as trundles) that can create a stepped appearance, as in the above picture.
Day beds look great and they take up minimal space, so if you don’t have enough room for a double bed in your guest room they could be perfect. With elaborate designs and easy-to-use features, a day bed could look beautiful in your guest bedroom.
Sofa Beds
If you would like to create a space that is a little bit more functional, a sofa bed may be a wiser choice. For instance, if you would like to double your guest room up as an office or a reading room, a sofa bed could help you to make the transition between these two uses very easily. You could simply pull the mattress out when inviting people to sleep over, and then quickly reorganise everything again afterwards.
When choosing between a day bed and a sofa bed, you should always take the mattress into account. This will be the most important part of your decision – you will want to choose one that has a comfortable mattress that allows you to sleep easily and without developing any back pain.
If you’re having a hard time choosing between a day bed and a sofa bed, consider the different functionalities that both offer and check out the many mattresses that they can come with before buying.
